Joy Rider is my neo-burlesque alter ego. For seven years, I have created and performed locally and internationally, using neo-burlesque to subvert societal notions of femininity, reclaim sexual agency, and combat fetishization.
Joy is a 3-time winner at the prestigious Burlesque Hall of Fame in Las Vegas, the industry's most renowned competition and showcase. Her accolades include Most Innovative and Best Small Group in 2023, and Best Debut in 2022. Joy is known for her signature blend of glamour, power, storytelling, and sensuality in her performances, which explore themes of identity, queerness, struggle, and joy.
She has headlined international burlesque festivals and showcases around the world both as a soloist and with her partner Chloé Seyrès aka Kozmic Skater in their collaborative project Kozmic Joy which blends burlesque with roller dance. Notable headlining performances include: the Toronto Burlesque Festival, the New Mexico Burlesque Festival, Pride Toronto, What the Funk BIPOC Burlesque Festival (Seattle), Highway to Hull (UK), and more.
As a producer, Joy creates interdisciplinary cabarets that highlight diverse talents from burlesque, circus, roller skating, dance, comedy, music, and more. With a deep commitment to supporting queer and marginalized artists, she provides a platform for innovative, boundary-pushing performance work. One of her standout productions, Sax Appeal, is a unique collaboration with Burning Brass (Noovo’s QuelTalent!), Canada's only all-women and non-binary brass band, featuring live music paired with burlesque—the only of its kind in Canada.
Joy is also a passionate teacher, offering workshops on stage presence, burlesque movement, identity, and goal setting, among other topics. Additionally, she has developed a new movement discipline called Skatelesque, blending roller dance with classic and neo-burlesque elements to create a dynamic new form of expression. She also coaches and mentors new artists, helping them to cultivate their own artistic practices.
